ARtsway

Columbus Summer Tech Youth Mural Program

Calling all Columbus artists, grades 9-12, who are ready to level up their skills, paint BIG, and bring a wall to life under the instruction of local artists — this ten-session, immersive, STEAM-based arts program is for YOU!

This program is available at no cost thanks to funding from the City of Columbus and in partnership with Smart Columbus. Students who complete the program and submit the required paperwork will be compensated with a $200 stipend for their work!

  • Art

Students in four neighborhoods will work with local professional artists and educators to learn how to design a mural.

They will experiment with a variety of painting and mixed media techniques culminating in both individual and collaborative murals – including one permanent mural installation per neighborhood.

  • Technology

Aspiring young visual artists, designers and technologists will experience hands-on art-making that infuses technology through the use of Adobe Creative Suite to scale a small idea onto a huge wall.

Students will also be introduced to augmented reality (AR) technologies that allow a mural to “come to life” as an animated feature viewed through a smart phone screen.

  • Youth

This free, 10-session program is for youth grades 9-12, residing in the city of Columbus, OH, who practice art and have a passion for or interest in mural arts and digital design, as well as augmented reality.

Each cohort can accommodate 12 students. Preference will be given to Columbus City Schools students in the 4 target neighborhoods: South Side, King-Lincoln Bronzeville, Franklinton, and Hilltop. All city of Columbus high school students are welcome to apply.
